Today was one of those days when, from the minute I got up, I just really, really fancied a good chocolate cake. My most favourite chocolate cake in the whole world has got to be Nigella's old-fashioned chocolate cake from 'Feast', and in that same vein I remembered Mannix's 'Coco, the burlesque wonder cake'. Coco contains soured cream in the cake and frosting as does Nigella's cake. I need that touch of acidity provided, to cut through the sweet chocolate.
You can find the recipe for coco at Mannix's Lovebite a fantastic site, full of recipes which just call to be made and loved.
Coco is fantastic - sweet, yielding, gorgeous! I loved the way that both cake and frosting are whizzed up in the processor (not together of course!)
Where's the recipe from? Mannix's 'The Lovebite' site
Marks out of 10? 9
Would I make it again? Oh, yes, yes, please!!
Oh it looks fab! That icing, oh yum :)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous, mouthwatering pic! Well done Anna and Mannix!!!
ReplyDeleteThere you are! LOL
ReplyDeleteLooks beautiful. I've never made Coco. Methinks I need a good spanking from Mannix for that bad behavior. ;)

It looks to die for! You just know a cake is going to be good when the recipe calls for sour cream. Nice photo!

Oh wow! It looks so luscious!
ReplyDeleteThat looks absolutely delicious! I'm going to check out the love bite asap!!
ReplyDeleteWOW! That looks gorgeous, i'm going too make it tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteMmmmm, lovely! I also need a hint of sour in my chocolate frostings, to make it less tooth-achingly sweet ;)
ReplyDeleteI need to give this a go soon!
Anna when you make the Old Fashioned Chocolate cake, does it come out to be a short cake for you? I just saw Nigella make it on YouTube and it sure was a lot thicker than the one I made and used all brand new ingredients. I mean it taste awesome, but it looks so skinny.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, your cake looks fab. Good for you! Now come on an join in more at Nigella.com. I miss you there and the rest of the oldies.

Sarah, I guess it is quite a slim cake now that I think about it. But by the time it's layered with filling and frosting it gains in height!
ReplyDelete:-)
that frosting looks to die for. nicee!
ReplyDeletei love using sour cream in cakes too. they give it such a lovely, cake-ier texture.
